Brian Jonestown Massacre's 'tambourine man' steps out front...

With the only going psychedelic resurgence continuing to bear mind-blowing fruit, The Brian Jonestown Massacre could justifiably point to all manner of hotly tipped new groups and shriek: 'we invented you!'

Thankfully, the legendary collective are perhaps on their finest form yet. New album 'Revelation' was warmly received by fans, while British shows culminated in a sold out performance at London's legendary Roundhouse venue.

Joel Gion - the group's famed 'tambourine man' - has been a continual presence. Yet with the band now spread across the globe, the West Coast musician found that he missed out on the everyday creativity he previously craved.

The result: 'Apple Bonkers'. A solo album, Joel Gion sets controls for the heart of the sun for a desert-fried space rock adventure.

Out on September 1st in the UK via The Reverberation Appreciation Society / The Committee to Keep Music Evil, it's an eye opening collection which finds Joel Gion stepping firmly out into the limelight.

Here's an introductory quote: "With all the BJM members now living so spread out across the world, I found myself increasingly missing the album making process. This feeling of disconnect is what kick started me into exploring my own song writing process and turned out to be a hugely important piece of self discovery. No more time for my beloved laziness. So I made my own music with a with bunch of friends in the studio coming and going and having a great time creating. I think a lot of people are going to be surprised by this album."

A continually surprising, ever engaging collection, 'Apple Bonkers' shares much of the tropes which fuel the finest moments of Brian Jonestown Massacre: a fondness for lysergic melody, kinetic rhythms and a lust for chaos.

Check it out first on Clash.
